Right now, the vital conditions for good health are highly uneven across our communities. By taking steps to ensure that everyone has a full and fair chance at good health, we can not only improve wellbeing but also unlock greater productivity and prosperity in our region.
bi3 recognizes government is a critical decision-maker and a major funder of healthcare and human services. That’s why bi3 leverages what we learn from our investments to inform and influence public policy.
We encourage elected and government leaders to think differently about health and healthcare, equipping them with insights, data, and stories from our work.
Legislation we’re tracking
Goal: Ensure that getting needed medical care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period does not create long-term financial harm through medical debt. The bill recognizes that healthcare expenses often result from unavoidable medical needs rather than consumer choice.
Goal: Ensure new and expectant mothers are screened for mental health concerns and connected to care if they need it. Catching disorders early and establishing preventative care saves lives, lowers costs, and helps the acute-care provider crisis.
Goal: Create a practical, affordable statewide paid family leave program that includes extended time off for parental leave, family caregiving leave and personal medical leave to support families and help businesses retain valued employees.
Goal: Protect young people from harmful interactions with artificial intelligence systems, particularly AI chatbots that may encourage self-harm, suicide, or violence. The bill would impose penalties on entities whose AI models suggest or promote harming oneself or another person.
Goal: Require health benefit plans to cover annual behavioral health well checks, giving children, youth, and families regular opportunities to identify mental health concerns before they become crises.
