bi3 has been fortunate to partner with leading organizations in our community. The success and lessons learned together paved the way to our current funding priorities. Below is a list of current initiatives fueled by bi3 funding.
All-In Cincinnati
“Improving health equity through policy and advocacy”
A three-year, $525,000 bi3 grant supported the core operations of All-In Cincinnati and the addition of a Health Equity Policy Director—one of few in the region solely focused on health advocacy—to implement a multi-dimensional advocacy agenda, create collaborative partnerships with local policymakers and other advocacy organizations and train and mobilize the coalition members to advance its public health policy efforts. Best Point Education and Behavioral Health
“Engaging expert partners to advocate for mothers’ mental health”
An 18-month, $240,400 bi3 grant to Best Point Education and Behavioral Health fueled a new strategic plan to address gaps and barriers within the current maternal mental healthcare system, building toward long-term sustainable change. To advance this important work, Best Point partnered with an Advisory Council that includes Every Child Succeeds, Cradle Cincinnati, Groundwork Ohio, TriHealth, UC Health and Hamilton County Public Health. “Improving youth mental health”
A one-year $1.3 million bi3 grant helped Best Point increase access to youth behavioral health services and improve quality of care by strengthening Best Point’s organizational capacity and supporting its workforce. (2023)
Blaq Birth Circle
“Supporting birth equity”
A 3-year $200,000 grant to Blaq Birth Circle supported efforts to build a professional support network for Black birth workers, including doulas. The three-year grant will foster continuing professional birth education while building the community of Black birth workers, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to Black birthing families. Children’s Defense Fund — Ohio
“Supporting advocacy efforts”
A one-year $50,000 bi3 grant supported the Children’s Defense Fund’s (CDF) advocacy efforts during the Ohio State Legislature’s budgeting process. CDF champions policies and programs that lift children from poverty, protect them from abuse and neglect, and ensure access to healthcare and quality education. (2023)
CHNK Behavioral Health
“Expanding Mental Health Services in a Pandemic Climate campaign”
A three-year $1.5 million bi3 grant to CHNK Behavioral Health (formerly Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky Behavioral Health) supported their Expanding Mental Health Services in a Pandemic Climate Campaign. Funds contributed to the expansion of CHNK’s mental health and family preservation services by 55%. CHNK currently partners with 16 school districts with increasing demand and is pursuing public-private funding partnerships to support the initiative. (2022)
Consortium for Resilient Children
“Improving youth mental health”
A one-year $50,000 grant positioned the longstanding local Consortium of ten early childhood and mental health organizations to build capacity through pilot training and development of early childhood professionals. (2023)

Cradle Cincinnati
“Cradle Cincinnati Connections: Reducing extreme preterm birth by expanding the successes of StartStrong”
A three-year, $1.6 million grant, funded Cradle Cincinnati’s work to replicate the StartStrong model of care in four new geographies to reduce extreme preterm birth and infant mortality. The project offers mothers neighborhood-based support and engages families in co-creating services for their community. (2019)
“Mama Certified”
bi3 granted $580,000 to The Health Collaborative in partnership with Cradle Cincinnati to support the development, implementation, and initial evaluation of Mama Certified, created by Cradle Cincinnati’s Queen’s Village to improve equitable maternal care for Black parents-to-be. The project will result in families feeling more empowered in choosing a birthing hospital that is right for their family. (2022)
Data for Equity Funding Collaborative
“Establishing the Collaborative”
With the support of a $350,000 one-year bi3 grant, bi3, Interact for Health and the HealthPath Foundation formed the Data for Equity Funding Collaborative to respond directly to grantee partner input by providing grant funds and technical assistance to develop organizational capacity around data and evaluation in service of health equity in Greater Cincinnati. The Data for Equity Funding Collaborative is hosted by Interact for Change, a 501(c)(3) subsidiary of Interact for Health. (2022)
“Developing capacity for equitable data and evaluation”
The Data for Equity Funding Collaborative, a partnership among bi3, HealthPath and Interact for Health, granted 10 Greater Cincinnati nonprofit organizations $25,000 ecah over 12 months to develop their organizational capacity around data and evaluation in service of health equity. In addition to building equitable approaches to data and evaluation, organizations will receive ongoing technical assistance, training and shared learning opportunities. (2022)

Fernside Center for Grieving Children
“Expanding bereavement services”
A three-year $1.3 million bi3 grant helped Fernside Center for Grieving Children expand bereavement services, such as support groups and crisis programs, to more schools and families while also seeding an endowment to support the organization long-term. (2023)
First Step Home
“Training therapists for the new Family Unity Center”
bi3 granted $35,000 to support training for therapists of the new Family Unity Center. Recognizing that addiction and recovery affect—and are impacted by—family relationships, First Step Home has opened the Family Unity Center to offer therapy and support services to families. The Family Unity Center will serve existing clients and their families and will eventually be open to all Walnut Hills residents. (2023)
Greater Cincinnati Foundation
“Racial Equity Matters”
bi3’s continued sponsorship of these educational programs helps expand Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s reach in the community. Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s Racial Equity Matters workshops dive deep into the history of racism in America and present methods to enact change. (2020)

Greater Cincinnati Foundation & City of Cincinnati
“Boots on the Ground Fund”
A one-year $100,000 bi3 grant strengthened the capacity of small, community-based organizations to drive equitable change through the Boots on the Ground Fund. The fund, established by Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) and the City of Cincinnati, will provide capacity-building grants of up to $25,000 each, enabling grantees to build and grow their organizational effectiveness. Groundwork Ohio
“Maternal and Young Child Health Transformation Center”
The three-year $1,250,000 grant will support the development of a new Maternal and Young Child Health Transformation Center to improve outcomes for pregnant women and young children across the State. Groundwork Ohio is a research and advocacy organization that champions high-quality early learning and healthy development strategies for children from the prenatal period to age five. (2021)
Hospice of Cincinnati
“Conversations of a Lifetime”
bi3 and CommonSpirit Health (formerly Catholic Health Initiatives) jointly awarded a $2.3 million grant to Hospice of Cincinnati for a three-year effort to transform end-of-life care. Conversations of a Lifetime encourages earlier end-of-life planning conversations between physicians, care teams, patients and families. The program has reached deeply into the community to make this a new standard of care by training physicians and facilitators to deploy the program. (2013)
“PalliaCare Cincinnati: A community-based palliative care program”
A three-year, $3.35 million grant from bi3 enabled TriHealth and Hospice of Cincinnati to launch PalliaCare Cincinnati, the first health-system-sponsored community-based palliative care program in the region. The program provides health and social services to individuals with serious, long-term or chronic illnesses so they can remain in their home, better manage their symptoms and more appropriately utilize acute healthcare services. “Advancing health equity in advanced illness and end-of-life care”
A one-year, $500,000 bi3 grant helped Hospice of Cincinnati (HOC) Navigators build the cultural competency of staff and create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. It also supported additional resources to help HOC listen, learn from and respond to Black communities regarding barriers to care. (2022)
Interact for Change
“Strategic plan to promote mental wellness”
A one-year $100,000 bi3 grant supported the development of a 10-year vision and strategic plan to promote mental wellness and thriving among youth by hiring consultants to facilitate and lead the planning process. (2023)
Lighthouse Youth & Family Services
“Lighthouse Clinic”
A two-year $695,000 bi3 grant fueled Lighthouse Youth & Family Services’ efforts to develop the Lighthouse Clinic, which will expand mental health services to provide in-house psychiatric and medical management services to youth under age 24 who experience multiple barriers to receiving care in the community. Mental Health and Addiction Advocacy Coalition
“Studying behavioral health needs of racial and ethnic minority populations”
A two-year $100,000 bi3 grant helped Mental Health and Addiction Advocacy Coalition gather and analyze statewide data on the behavioral health needs of racial and ethnic minority populations and make recommendations to improve data collection and policy. (2022)

NyNi, Inc.
“Supporting birth equity”
bi3 awarded a three-year $200,000 grant to NyNi, Inc. to increase the number of trained and certified community-based Black birth doulas in Butler and Hamilton Counties by providing training to approximately 100 Black birth doulas. The training would include certification and business development, which would create a pathway for Medicaid reimbursement and involve mentoring other doulas. (2023)
Ohio Children's Alliance
“Supporting advocacy efforts”
bi3 awarded a one-year $50,000 grant to the Ohio Children’s Alliance to support advocacy efforts focusing on mental and behavioral health, child welfare and early childhood mental health. The Ohio Children’s Alliance leads the Ohio Children’s Mental Health Budget Coalition, which aims to advance state policies that enhance mental health and prevention programming for youth. (2023)
Refugee Connect
“Health Navigator Program”
bi3 granted a three-year $300,000 to Refugee Connect to expand its Health Navigator Program, connecting refugee and immigrant families to a local cultural leader with native language skills to address health-related needs and help them navigate the healthcare system. (2022)
Rosemary's Babies
“Holloway House and Resources Center”
bi3’s one-year $100,000 grant to Rosemary’s Babies supported the expansion of programming as the organization transitions to its new facility, the Holloway House and Resources Center. (2022)
The Health Care Connection
“Supporting birth equity”
bi3 granted a $30,000 one-year grant to The Health Care Connection (THCC) to support THCC’s Centering Pregnancy program, providing convenient and timely access to critical diagnostic services for populations that experience disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes, including Black and Hispanic/Latino patients. The Health Collaborative
“Mama Certified”
bi3 granted a one-year $580,000 grant to The Health Collaborative in partnership with Cradle Cincinnati to support the development, implementation, and initial evaluation of Mama Certified, created by Cradle Cincinnati’s Queen’s Village to improve equitable maternal care for Black parents-to-be. TriHealth
“Addressing Health Disparities”
A three-year $4.5 million bi3 grant supported TriHealth in increasing its commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) through expanded training, data analysis and evaluation of replicable care models. (2022)
“Behavioral Health Integration Project”
A $9 million, three-year bi3 investment, supported TriHealth’s plans to expand the integration of Behavioral Health services into pediatric and adult primary care locations, as well as introduce best-practice care models in other specialty areas, including obstetrics and oncology, throughout the system. The expansion of TriHealth’s cutting-edge integrated behavioral health consultant model of care made it among the first health systems in the nation to provide pediatric and adult patients with this comprehensive approach. “Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy”
bi3 awarded a $1.5 million grant to the TriHealth Cancer Institute to support TriHealth’s advancements in precision medicine, an emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual differences in genes, environments and lifestyles instead of a one-drug-fits-all model. More specifically, funds will help accelerate a new cellular therapy, CAR-T, which increases timely care for all blood cancers and helps physicians determine the best treatment for each patient based on their unique genetic makeup. “Health Equity Center”
The $4.3 million three-year bi3 grant supported TriHealth in launching a widescale, strategic approach to health equity, starting with the launch of a new Center for Health Equity. The Center consists of a TriHealth team that will deploy targeted initiatives to address community-wide social determinants of health and health status while focusing on health and process of care disparities within its patient population. This new grant builds on the $4.5 million grant bi3 awarded in 2022. Learn more. (2023)
“Precision Medicine Institute”
A $4.3 million three-year start-up grant helped TriHealth launch the region’s first formalized multi-disciplinary Precision Medicine Institute, giving tens of thousands of tristate patients access to customized, preventive and potentially lifesaving genetic care. The launch built on previous bi3 funding to train clinicians on using precision medicine and integrating patients’ genomic indicators within their electronic records. Learn more. (2022)
“School to Work Apprenticeship Program”
A $6 million bi3 investment helped TriHealth obtain an additional $6 million from TriHealth co-sponsor CommonSpirit Health to complete an endowment to continue the School to Work program, which was fueled by a $1 million planning grant from bi3 in 2019. The School to Work program gives Cincinnati Public School Students the opportunity of real-world working experience and mentorship in the healthcare field. (2021)

“Team Member Resource Center”
The three-year $996,451 bi3 grant supported the operations of TriHealth’s new Team Member Resource Center by providing resources to team members impacted by the COVID-19 crisis including financial, personal and professional support. (2020)
“TriHealthNow Telehealth Program”
The three-year $3.84 million bi3 grant funded a new telehealth program to advance how healthcare is delivered in the Greater Cincinnati community. TriHealthNow will enable patients to easily meet with and be treated by physicians remotely, wherever patients are located and whenever there is need. Learn more. (2019)
“Woman Centered Medical Home”
A $3.7 million, three-year grant from bi3 supported TriHealth’s Good Samaritan OB-GYN Center in fundamentally changing how care is delivered to patients who disproportionately suffer from poor birth and health outcomes. Building from the success of StartStrong, the OB-GYN Center is adopting a patient-centered, team-based approach that connects patients to a consistent care team and community resources to achieve better health outcomes. bi3 also funded a one-year $75,000 planning grant that led to this transformational project. United Way of Greater Cincinnati
“bi3 Health Equity Fund”
Through a $1 million, three-year investment, bi3 launched the bi3 Health Equity Fund in partnership with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) to support Black Empowerment Works, which gives grants to Black changemakers to fund creative ideas and impactful projects that help Greater Cincinnati communities address poverty and systemic inequality. Through its Health Equity Fund, bi3 is supporting organizations to address disparities in resources for Black-led organizations to improve health outcomes and build health equity. Learn more. (2022)
Women Helping Women
“Rise Beyond Violence”
A three-year $1.5 million bi3 grant to Women Helping Women supported their Rise Beyond Violence campaign by helping scale school-based prevention programming in Cincinnati Public Schools and the Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) to all 49 police jurisdictions in Hamilton County and expand organizational capacity and technology.
