bi3 has been fortunate to partner with leading organizations in our community. The success and lessons learned together paved the way to our current funding priorities. Below is a list of current initiatives fueled by bi3 funding.
All-In Cincinnati
“Improving health equity through policy and advocacy”
A three-year, $525,000 bi3 grant supported the core operations of All-In Cincinnati and the addition of a Health Equity Policy Director—one of few in the region solely focused on health advocacy—to implement a multi-dimensional advocacy agenda, create collaborative partnerships with local policymakers and other advocacy organizations and train and mobilize the coalition members to advance its public health policy efforts. Blaq Birth Circle
“Supporting birth equity”
A 3-year $200,000 grant to Blaq Birth Circle supported efforts to build a professional support network for Black birth workers, including doulas. The three-year grant will foster continuing professional birth education while building the community of Black birth workers, ultimately improving the quality of care provided to Black birthing families. CHNK Behavioral Health
“Expanding Mental Health Services in a Pandemic Climate campaign”
A three-year $1.5 million bi3 grant to CHNK Behavioral Health (formerly Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky Behavioral Health) supported their Expanding Mental Health Services in a Pandemic Climate Campaign. Funds contributed to the expansion of CHNK’s mental health and family preservation services by 55%. CHNK currently partners with 16 school districts with increasing demand and is pursuing public-private funding partnerships to support the initiative. (2022)
Christ Tabernacle Ministries of Excellence
“Next Gen Mental Health Check”
bi3 granted $272,000 over two years to support the initiative’s launch. The program will provide vital mental health resources through education, peer support groups, and events and connect people to available care and resources. Efforts will increase access to culturally competent mental health services and establish community support networks. (2024)

Consortium for Resilient Children
“Improving youth mental health”
A one-year $50,000 grant positioned the longstanding local Consortium of ten early childhood and mental health organizations to build capacity through pilot training and development of early childhood professionals. (2023)

Cradle Cincinnati
“Cradle Cincinnati’s Community Informed 2023-2027 Strategic Plans”
bi3 awarded a three-year, $3,320,066 grant to transform systems and create equity for Black birthing people in Hamilton County by creating a community-based ecosystem of support for Black birthing people, supporting Black birthing people across all stages of their pregnancy and parenthood by providing for basic needs, and expanding the medical system’s capacity to center the needs of Black birthing people. “Supporting community health”
A $200,000 grant supported Cradle Cincinnati in continuing to serve nearly 1,000 mothers through community health workers, ensuring the sustainment of services that helped lower infant mortality rates in Hamilton County. (2024)
Data for Equity Funding Collaborative
“Establishing the Collaborative”
A $350,000 bi3 grant—along with funding from Interact for Health and the HealthPath Foundation—fueled the formation of the Data for Equity Funding Collaborative to respond directly to grantee partner input by providing grant funds and technical assistance to develop organizational capacity around data and evaluation in service of health equity in Greater Cincinnati. In addition to funding, teams from bi3 and Interact for Health have led The Data for Equity Funding Collaborative through two cohorts. (2022)
“Expanding the Collaborative”
A $600,000 grant supported two additional cohorts of 10 health-focused nonprofit organizations in developing their capacity to use data to build equitable approaches and programs.(2024)

Every Child Succeeds
“Communications Strategy”
bi3 granted $184,500 to support the development of a communications strategy and launch of its fundraising campaign. Every Child Succeeds is a key partner in delivering perinatal support and early childhood development services to families experiencing a variety of risk factors and this grant will help position the organization for greater financial sustainability. Fernside Center for Grieving Children
“Expanding bereavement services”
A three-year $1.3 million bi3 grant helped Fernside Center for Grieving Children expand bereavement services, such as support groups and crisis programs, to more schools and families while also seeding an endowment to support the organization long-term. (2023)
Forever Kings, Inc.
“Kings Made Whole Initiative”
A one-year $20,000 bi3 grant provided mental health support to boys and young men of color. Rates of suicide among Black youth are rising faster than any other racial/ethnic group. Forever Kings’ Kings Made Whole program will increase access to mental health care and provide evidence-based curricula and tools to increase social-emotional well-being. (2023)

Groundwork Ohio
“Maternal and Young Child Health Transformation Center”
The three-year $1,250,000 grant will support the development of a new Maternal and Young Child Health Transformation Center to improve outcomes for pregnant women and young children across the State. Groundwork Ohio is a research and advocacy organization that champions high-quality early learning and healthy development strategies for children from the prenatal period to age five. (2021)
“Supporting the Center for Maternal and Young Child Health”
The three-year $750,000 grant will support the Center in advancing best practices in prenatal-to-five health policy. The Center will engage in research and policy analysis, provide advocacy training for stakeholders and families and build a statewide coalition to advocate for policy changes that lead to improved health outcomes for moms and young children. The funding builds on bi3’s $1.2 million grant in 2021 that launched the Center—which played a key role in expanding postpartum Medicaid coverage in Ohio. (2024)
Healthy Moms & Babes
“Mobile Van Outreach”
bi3 awarded $150,000 to support the Mobile Van Outreach program, enabling Healthy Moms & Babes to provide more comprehensive medical care to Black and Hispanic women who do not have an established healthcare provider. Healthy Moms & Babes serves as an entry point to the healthcare system, resulting in mothers receiving more prenatal and postnatal care and increasing positive birth outcomes in the community. (2024)
Health Policy Institute Ohio
“Supporting health policy that improves health”
bi3 awarded a three-year $150,000 grant to support the Health Policy Institute of Ohio’s core operations, including the development of independent and nonpartisan evidence-informed state health policy that improves health value. (2023)

Hopeful Empowered Youth (HEY!)
“Regional Youth Mental Health Strategy”
With a $1 million grant, bi3 supported the operations of HEY!’s backbone staff and youth fellowship as well as grant funding for the implementation of the collaborative’s strategies and projects. HEY! is the result of unprecedented community collaboration, bringing together community groups, funders, healthcare providers, educators, policymakers, families, and, most importantly, youth, working collaboratively to create a community that supports the well-being of all youth. IV-CHARIS
“Improving mental health access and services for BIPOC families and children”
bi3 awarded a $150,000 grant to support the development of a pilot program to improve mental health access and services for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) families and children in Fairfield and West Chester. The program provides a combination of mental health assessments, music-infused art therapy and support from community health workers to help families access additional healthcare resources. (2024)
Jamaa Health
“The Peace of Mind Project”
An 18-month $150,000 bi3 grant supported the launch of The Peace of Mind Project in partnership with Diasporic Soul. The project aims to design and offer a replicable four-part mental health and wellbeing intervention that integrates cultural and contemplative practices, creating a safe communal space for Black men ages 18-40. The project will also develop a curriculum and offer training for practitioners, providers, and community members across the Greater Cincinnati region to improve cultural competency in addressing the mental health needs of Black men. Lighthouse Youth & Family Services
“Bridge Funding & Sustainability Strategies”
A one-year $305,792 bi3 grant supported the delivery of services in the Lighthouse Clinic and the testing of additional sustainability strategies such as accepting private insurance to expand the client base and continued advocacy regarding the need for youth mental health services within our community. Me & She Doula
“Me & She Doula Services for Families”
bi3 awarded $200,000 over three years to support families with doula services, childbirth and breastfeeding education and to measure outcomes from the support. Funding will also support the training and mobilization of new and existing doulas, and collaboration with other maternal health services. (2023)
NyNi, Inc.
“Supporting birth equity”
bi3 awarded a three-year $200,000 grant to NyNi, Inc. to increase the number of trained and certified community-based Black birth doulas in Butler and Hamilton Counties by providing training to approximately 100 Black birth doulas. The training would include certification and business development, which would create a pathway for Medicaid reimbursement and involve mentoring other doulas. (2023)
Ohio Children's Alliance
“Supporting advocacy efforts”
bi3 awarded a one-year $50,000 grant to the Ohio Children’s Alliance to support advocacy efforts focusing on mental and behavioral health, child welfare and early childhood mental health. The Ohio Children’s Alliance leads the Ohio Children’s Mental Health Budget Coalition, which aims to advance state policies that enhance mental health and prevention programming for youth. (2023)
Primary Health Solutions
“Integrated maternal health services”
bi3 awarded $500,000 over three years to fuel the expansion of integrated maternal health services for underserved pregnant women with high-risk, complicated pregnancies throughout Butler County. It will include ultrasounds, diabetic management, mental health services, and additional support during mom’s first year postpartum and baby’s first year of life. Ultimately, Primary Health Solutions, which is exploring a partnership with TriHealth, aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. (2024)
ProKids
“Child Protection Workforce Support”
bi3 awarded $35,000 over one year to support ProKids’ operations and capacity to partner with Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services to improve care for children in the child protection system. (2023)
Refugee Connect
“Health Navigator Program”
bi3 granted a three-year $300,000 to Refugee Connect to expand its Health Navigator Program, connecting refugee and immigrant families to a local cultural leader with native language skills to address health-related needs and help them navigate the healthcare system. (2022)
The DAD Initiative
“Black Man’s Think Tank”
bi3 granted a $50,000 grant to The DAD Initiative for the relaunch of the Black Man Think Tank, a series of events dedicated to addressing Black men’s health and societal challenges. The events focus on mental and physical health, financial well-being, enhanced interpersonal skills, and stronger community ties. The reimagined Black Man Think Tanks builds on the original series from 1983 to 1999. (2024)
The Health Collaborative
“Regional Community Health Needs Assessment & Regional Community Health Improvement Plan 2024”
bi3 granted a one-year $194,000 grant to The Health Collaborative to support the development of the regional Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Funding supplemented the Health Collaborative’s Hospital Member CHNA contribution to contract with the Health Policy Institute of Ohio (HPIO) to conduct data collection, analysis, and synthesis to inform hospital and community health improvement strategies. The Mothership Institute for Womb Wellness
“Childbirth Education and Doula Services”
bi3 granted $200,000 to The Mothership Institute for Womb Wellness to support expanding The Mothership Institute’s childbirth education and doula services, establishing infrastructure for Medicaid reimbursement, and hosting community-based events for local parents to improve birth outcomes and maternal health. TriHealth
“Behavioral Health Integration Project”
A $9 million, three-year bi3 investment, supported TriHealth’s plans to expand the integration of Behavioral Health services into pediatric and adult primary care locations, as well as introduce best-practice care models in other specialty areas, including obstetrics and oncology, throughout the system. The expansion of TriHealth’s cutting-edge integrated behavioral health consultant model of care made it among the first health systems in the nation to provide pediatric and adult patients with this comprehensive approach. “Health Equity Center”
bi3 awarded a $4.5 million grant to TriHealth to support the implementation of a new Health Equity Roadmap and provide seed funding to establish a Center for Health Equity at TriHealth combined with the work of the 2021 grant of $662,500 one-year grant to TriHealth will support a comprehensive plan to reduce health disparities and build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. “Precision Medicine Institute”
A $4.3 million three-year start-up grant helped TriHealth launch the region’s first formalized multi-disciplinary Precision Medicine Institute, giving tens of thousands of tristate patients access to customized, preventive and potentially lifesaving genetic care. The launch built on previous bi3 funding to train clinicians on using precision medicine and integrating patients’ genomic indicators within their electronic records. Learn more. (2022)
United Way of Greater Cincinnati
“bi3 Health Equity Fund”
Through a $1 million, three-year investment, bi3 launched the bi3 Health Equity Fund in partnership with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati (UWGC) to support Black Empowerment Works, which gives grants to Black changemakers to fund creative ideas and impactful projects that help Greater Cincinnati communities address poverty and systemic inequality. Through its Health Equity Fund, bi3 is supporting organizations to address disparities in resources for Black-led organizations to improve health outcomes and build health equity. Learn more. (2022)
Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio
“Urban League to eliminate racial disparities”
bi3 awarded $1,500,000 over three years to support the implementation of the Urban League of Southwestern Ohio’s 2023-2026 strategic plan to eliminate racial disparities by addressing the social determinants of health by developing innovative solutions to address generational poverty; driving public policy changes to help eliminate the economic drivers to racial disparities; effectively communicating impact and strengthen the organization’s operations. Uzima Rejuvenation Station
bi3 awarded $400,000 over three years to support the implementation of the initiative, which provides culturally competent childbirth education and breastfeeding support, as well as education and resources to address the social determinants of health. The program will serve a significant portion of Black expectant parents and babies in Butler County, improving infant mortality rates and health outcomes. (2024)
Women Helping Women
“Rise Beyond Violence”
A three-year $1.5 million bi3 grant to Women Helping Women supported their Rise Beyond Violence campaign by helping scale school-based prevention programming in Cincinnati Public Schools and the Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) to all 49 police jurisdictions in Hamilton County and expand organizational capacity and technology. YWCA of Greater Cincinnati
“YWCA to improve health and safety outcomes for women and girls”
bi3 awarded $1,500,000 over three years to build YWCA’s organizational capacity to achieve systems-level change, resulting in improved health and safety outcomes for women and girls. Objectives include sustaining operations of trauma-informed domestic violence emergency shelter and housing programs, creating and activating a racial and gender equity policy advocacy plan driven by community needs, and expanding racial equity training for agencies and institutions that lead the systems identified in the advocacy plan.
