More than 80,000 students engaging in culture-changing activities
The bi3 Fund, The Joe Burrow Foundation and Interact for Heath partnered to support 107 Greater Cincinnati high schools in planning and leading activities in recognition of World Teen Mental Wellness Day (WTMWD).
Observed annually on March 2, World Teen Mental Wellness Day raises awareness about the mental health challenges teenagers face, reduces stigma, and empowers young people to promote wellness and solutions within their own school communities.
Across the region, more than 80,000 students will participate in student-led initiatives designed to shift culture to openness, connection, and support.
Teen mental health challenges, including anxiety and depression, remain prevalent. Research shows stigma continues to prevent many teens from seeking help. Also, many students report they are unaware of the mental health resources available in their schools and communities, and too few report regularly practicing self-care.
Through this partnership, each participating school received $1,000 to design and implement activities such as:
- Student-led wellness fairs
- Guest speakers and peer panels
- Resource awareness campaigns, including promotion of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
- Creative expression events focused on connection and belonging
This is the fourth year local students have had the opportunity to receive funding to support activities. In its inaugural year, funding supported 11 high schools, and the day has grown significantly in its impact since then.
