April marks the 125th anniversary of Bethesda Hospital. The Bethesda tradition began when seven German Methodist Deaconesses started going into neighborhoods and homes, carrying baskets of medical supplies, to provide hands-on care for those in Cincinnati who were denied access to healthcare. It was a new approach at the time — one dedicated to people who were often forgotten — and a legacy still guiding Bethesda’s entities today.
Today, bi3 carries on the entrepreneurial spirit of the Deaconesses by fueling health transformation and health equity initiatives. bi3 awards grants on behalf of Bethesda Hospital and helps it fulfill its charitable mission of meeting unmet community needs and improving health in the community.
