TriHealth announces new doula guidelines
In partnership with bi3 and Cradle Cincinnati, our partner system, TriHealth, is the first local hospital system to launch Doula Friendly Guidelines to better support birthing patients.
Through the Mama Certified initiative and ongoing community conversations, families expressed a desire for doulas to be welcomed as advocates and trusted support partners during pregnancy and childbirth. Research indicates that having doula support can improve birth outcomes.
These new guidelines reflect TriHealth’s commitment to improving maternal health and ensuring every patient feels heard, respected, and supported.

bi3 Funder’s Perspective: Working with grassroots organizations
bi3’s Director of Community Partnerships, Jena’ Bradley, reflects on why lasting change begins with those closest to the work. bi3 is committed to partnering with grassroots, community-based organizations whose lived experience and deep community ties make them powerful drivers of culturally responsive, community-led solutions. Our partnerships with them continue to shape how funders can show up with humility, trust, and support.

bi3 featured in GEO’s 2025 National Study of Philanthropic Practice
bi3’s Director of Evaluation and Learning, Zohar Perla contributed to GEO’s 2025 National Study of Philanthropic Practice, highlighting how bi3’s trust-based, equity-centered evaluation approach is rooted in learning and continuous improvement.
The study, drawing on data from 765 staffed U.S. foundations, offers a national snapshot of how philanthropy is progressing and where gaps remain in advancing equity-centered, community-driven practices.

Jill Miller shares perspective on leading through challenging times in philanthropy
bi3’s Jill Miller joined fellow regional leaders earlier this month as a panelist at Leading Through Challenge: Philanthropy in a Time of Scarcity, hosted by the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio. Moderated by Urban League President & CEO, and bi3 Fund Board Member, Christie Kuhns, Esq., the conversation offered a candid look at how funders are navigating rising community needs amid diminishing resources.
Jill was joined by Matthew Randazzo, President & CEO of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation; Moira Weir, President & CEO of United Way of Greater Cincinnati; and Ashlee Young, Vice President of Interact for Health. Together, they reflected on how collaboration, trust, and community-driven approaches are crucial to advancing our region.

Lighthouse Youth & Family Services celebrates partnership wrap-up with the bi3 team
At the end of every grant, we ask our funded partners how they would like to celebrate their success in improving the health of those they serve. The Lighthouse Youth & Family Services team chose to hold an ice cream social with our bi3 team and the young people they serve.
Over the last two years, bi3 has invested nearly $1 million to help Lighthouse Youth & Family Services (LYFS) launch and sustain the Lighthouse Clinic, expanding in-house psychiatric and medical management services for youth under the age of 24 who face barriers to care. More than 1,000 clients have been served through the project, which has also improved the quality of care as LYFS clients no longer have to go to outside locations to receive medication management.
