bi3 is announcing $2,265,500 in new grants to TriHealth and community partners to fuel health innovation, advocacy, and racial equity initiatives. We invite you to learn more about each of these grants and to follow us throughout the year on our journey to transform health.
Strengthening Advocacy for Mothers and Children
A three-year $1,250,000 grant to Groundwork Ohio will support the development of a new Maternal and Young Child Health Transformation Center to improve outcomes for pregnant women and young children across the State. Groundwork Ohio is a research and advocacy organization that champions high-quality early learning and healthy development strategies for children from the prenatal period to age five.
Through our partnerships with the Good Samaritan OB/GYN Center and Cradle Cincinnati, we continue to hear the need for policy change to increase and sustain support for women in the perinatal period. The Center will focus on policy development and systems building through existing state programs to increase access to high-quality care and interventions for pregnant women and young children.
Accelerating Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
A $662,500 one-year grant to TriHealth will support a comprehensive plan to reduce health disparities and build a more diverse, equitable and inclusive culture.
The DEI Resource Initiative is a multi-faceted approach that includes programs for team member recruitment and retention, education and professional development, community partnerships and service line projects to reduce health disparities. The initiative aligns with existing bi3-funded work such as TriHealth Women’s Services OB-GYN Center at Good Samaritan, which includes team member training to create equitable patient experiences and outcomes; the School to Work Program, which introduces a diverse cohort of youth to the field of healthcare through employment, training, and mentorship; and TriHealth’s participation in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Pursuing Equity Learning Network, a national initiative implementing comprehensive strategies to create and sustain equitable health system.
Fueling Precision Medicine
bi3 is awarding a one-year $293,000 grant to TriHealth for the planning and implementation of TriHealth’s Precision Medicine Institute. The goal is to further deliver the “right care at the right time” to patients.
Specifically, the project aims to accelerate the application of genetic medicine across the system in clinical services such as the Cancer Institute and Heart Institute to improve quality of care and reduce adverse effects for patients. Precision medicine, or “personalized medicine,” tailors the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases to an individual’s unique set of clinical factors, in addition to personal ones.
Sponsoring Racial Equity Matters Education Series
bi3 is renewing its sponsorship of Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s (GCF) Racial Equity Matters Series through a $100,000 investment.
In 2020, bi3 funding enabled GCF to host 20 training sessions at no charge to participants, giving more than 1,200 attendees a stronger set of tools to analyze how systemic racism affects their daily lives. For those who have yet to participate, we encourage you to watch for future dates and sign up for a session in 2021.
